HADS is growing — help us build the community

We have welcomed a noticeable wave of new users to HADS lately. To everyone who has joined, downloaded a design, shared feedback, or published something of their own: thank you. It is genuinely exciting to see more people discover what we are building.

More users also means a bigger opportunity. HADS becomes more useful when there is an active community around the designs—not only a growing download count. The screenshots, questions, ideas, fixes, and real-world examples you share are what help someone else build a better Home Assistant dashboard.

HADS grows when we share

If HADS or Drag & Drop Card has helped you, please consider sharing it. Send a listing to a friend, show your dashboard in a Home Assistant group, or post a screenshot and a link on the social platform you use. A small share can introduce a new creator, bring useful feedback to an existing design, or help another user solve a problem they have been stuck on.

  • Share HADS designs and dashboards in relevant communities and on social media.
  • Upload your own work—even if it is a small card or a first version.
  • Leave constructive comments and tell creators how you use their designs.
  • Invite people with good ideas to join the discussion.

The goal is not simply to make HADS bigger. It is to make it more useful, welcoming, and active for everyone.

The HADS forum is now open

We have added a dedicated community forum where you can ask questions, show what you are building, discuss Home Assistant dashboards, suggest improvements, and help other users. It gives conversations a proper home instead of scattering them across individual cards and dashboards.

The forum is new, so this is the perfect time to help set the tone. Start a topic, introduce yourself, share a work in progress, or answer a question if you know the solution.

Coming next: add cards by entity

The latest public Drag & Drop Card release is v2.0.6. Development on the main branch is already one commit ahead, and the biggest addition currently taking shape is Add by entity.

Select your entity

And select which card type to add it with

Today, you normally start by choosing a card. With Add by entity, you start with the thing you want to control or display. Search for an entity, select it, and Drag & Drop Card recommends compatible card options. A domain-aware recommendation appears first, followed by useful alternatives such as Tile, Button, Entity, Glance, graph cards, and the DDC Icon card where they fit.

The picker can also detect supported custom cards installed in Home Assistant and include compatible options from projects such as Mushroom, Bubble Card, Button Card, and Mini Graph Card. Compatible HADS single-card designs can appear in the same flow. When you choose one, the design is downloaded, connected to the selected entity, and

opened in the normal editor before it is added to the canvas.

That means less guessing, less YAML hopping, and a much faster route from “I want to show this entity” to a card that actually fits , much like the new way that Home Assistant does things.

Bug fixes and workflow improvements

The work after v2.0.6 is not only about the new picker. The current development changes also include a broad set of fixes and refinements:

  • Safer cross-device sync: the shared backend snapshot is authoritative after reload, and a three-way merge helps preserve independent edits made on different responsive profiles.
  • Smoother editing: saving card code updates the card in place so the dashboard and active tab can stay mounted.
  • Better selection and movement: fixes and tests cover multi-selection, arrangement, group dragging, resizing, and geometry edge cases.
  • Clearer viewport behavior: automatic Desktop, Tablet, and Mobile selection is better documented for browsers, high-density screens, and fixed wall panels.
  • More resilient cards: lifecycle and rendering work improves behavior around HTML and custom cards.

This release is still in active development, so details may change before the next version is

tagged and released.

Help us shape what comes next

Try HADS, share what you create, and tell us where the experience can be better. If you have an idea or want to discuss the upcoming Drag & Drop Card changes, join the conversation in the forum. For technical reports and source-code updates, you can also follow the Drag & Drop Card repository on GitHub.

Thank you for being part of this. Every upload, helpful reply, bug report, and share makes the next visit to HADS better for someone else.
